Important Announcement: World Gym Plus 15 Closure

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the permanent closure of World Gym Plus 15, effective at 5:00 PM on Friday, May 16th. Since March 2020, we’ve worked tirelessly to navigate the challenges of a vacant Downtown Calgary. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we’ve been unable to rebuild our membership base to a level that can sustain the rising costs of rent, utilities, and products. In order to support the growth of our other locations, Southland and Sunridge, we’ve made the difficult decision to cease operations at Plus 15.

We understand that this news may come as a shock and will undoubtedly impact your fitness journey. Our team is doing everything possible to ensure a smooth transition for all of our members. Please see below for key details and information:

Membership & Billing:

World Gym Transfers:

All current members are welcome to transfer their membership to either Southland or Sunridge locations, free of charge. To complete your transfer, simply visit the location of your choice, and the transfer will be processed. Please note: All transfers will be subject to the rates at the new location. Your original membership join date will be honoured, meaning you won’t need to sign up for a new term when transferring. All Plus 15 transfers will received 2-months free.

Last Day to Visit the Gym:

The gym will remain open until 5:00 PM on Friday, May 16th. We encourage you to come in, complete your workouts, and say farewell to the World Gym team.

Final Thoughts:

When we opened this location in July 2019, we never imagined we’d be in this position. We’ve faced many challenges along the way, and we’ve done our best to overcome them. Despite our efforts, we believe this is the right decision for the future growth of our Southland and Sunridge locations, and any potential new locations.

Although this is goodbye for now, we hope it’s not goodbye forever. Please know that we are deeply grateful for your support and for allowing us to be part of your fitness journey. We hope to have the opportunity to serve you again in the future.

FAQ’s

Membership & Billing

1. What happens to my membership?
All Plus 15 memberships are cancelled. This means any future payments or past-due balances are no longer required. This cancellation only affects your membership at Plus 15 — it does not apply to other World Gym locations unless you transfer.

2. When was my last payment taken?
Your final payment was processed on Friday, May 9th.

3. I paid my membership dues in advance. How will I receive my pro-rated refund?
Members who paid for memberships monthly, quarterly, or annually in advance will receive a pro-rated refund for unused time. You will receive an email with details of your refund on or before Wednesday, May 14th.

4. I just signed up recently. Will I get a refund?
If you joined May 1st to now and paid an enrollment fee or your first dues payment, you will receive a refund. Watch for an email with refund details by Wednesday, May 14th.

5. What if I haven’t received my refund or email by May 14th?
Please email so we can assist you.

Transfers to Other Locations

1. How do I transfer my membership to Southland or Sunridge?
Visit the location you’d like to transfer to with valid ID and a payment method. Staff at the new location will help you set up your membership.

2. What do I need to bring when transferring?
Bring a valid photo ID and a payment method to start your new membership.

3. What are the membership rates at the new locations?
On a 1-year agreement: VIP Plus – $14.99/week; VIP – $9.99/week; Basic – $7.99/week.

4. Can I keep my current rate if I transfer?
No. Rates at Plus 15 differ from those at Southland and Sunridge. However, your new rate may be lower than what you were paying.

5. Will the facilities, classes, or hours be different at the new locations?
Yes. Please visit their websites to view classes, hours, and amenities: www.worldgymsouthland.com & www.worldgymsunridge.com

6. Should I transfer before or after Plus 15 closes?
If you plan to use Plus 15 until May 16, it’s best to transfer after that date. If you don’t need further access to Plus 15, feel free to transfer any time before May 23rd.

7. Is there a deadline to complete my transfer?
We recommend completing your transfer by Friday, May 23rd. However, we will continue to assist members after that date as needed.

Gym Access

1. Can I still use the gym until May 16th?
Yes. Members have full access until 5:00 PM on Friday, May 16th.

2. Will classes and personal training continue until the last day?
Yes. All scheduled group classes and training sessions will run as usual until closing day.

3. Can I bring a guest before the gym closes?
Yes! If your membership includes guest privileges, you may continue to use them before May 16th.

 

Refunds & Prepaid Packages

1. I purchased personal training or other services. Will I be refunded?
If you have unused, pre-paid sessions, your personal trainer will contact you directly with options. If you have questions, email us at with your trainer’s name and your contact info.

2. Who qualifies for a refund besides pre-paid memberships?
Refunds apply to:
• Members who paid monthly, quarterly, or annually in advance
• Members who joined May 1st to now and paid a startup fee or first payment
• Members with unused, pre-paid services (e.g., personal training, towel service)

 

Communication & Support

1. Who can I contact if I have a refund issue?
Email with your full name and any relevant details.

2. Can I speak to someone in person about this?
Yes. Our management and staff will be on-site and available to support you until the gym closes on Friday, May 16th.

3. How long will it take to receive a response to my email?
Due to higher email volume, please allow at least 1 business day for a response.

 

Community & Closure Concerns

1. Why didn’t we receive more advance notice?
We understand this is disappointing and sincerely apologize. We were doing everything we could to keep the gym open, right up to the final decision. We waited to notify members until we had clear next steps and support options ready. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding.

2. Can I stay connected with Plus 15 staff or trainers?
Yes. Feel free to stay connected with your trainers and our staff on your own terms. All team members will continue working their usual shifts until Friday, May 16th.
